National news here to highlight forestry families
TVNZ is in Gisborne today to film a story with the East Coast Food Bank. The news item will feature a forestry family who are struggling because of the lack of work.
Last week the forestry sector on the East Coast came to a halt after a perfect storm of events in China, where 85 percent of wood from Gisborne port goes. They included a drop in the log price, the Chinese market being flooded with wood from Europe, and the coronavirus outbreak in China.
East Coast Food Bank's Johnathan Pere said most of the families he had been dealing with had been laid off work and needed support during this time of hardship. Mr Pere will travel with a TVNZ reporter in his car while he drops off food parcels.
Anyone who can donate food please call Mr Pere on 027 390 5752.
