Too much swell for cruise ship
A SOLID choppy swell in Turanganui-a-Kiwa/Poverty Bay thwarted the visit by the cruise ship Regatta today, with the ship forced to sail on to Tauranga.
The 30,200 tonne, 181m-long ship was in Napier yesterday and scheduled to come to Gisborne for the day today.
Sea conditions in the bay were deemed unfavourable for the offloading of passengers.
The Regatta carries 824 passengers, and 386 crew.
The ship returns to Gisborne on January 22, the same day the Le Laperouse cruise ship makes her maiden visit.
