Coastguard picks up ill cruise ship passenger
THE Lion Foundation Coastguard boat was called out last night to get an unwell passenger off the cruise ship Pacific Princess that called into Poverty Bay.
The ship came into the Bay at around 6.15pm.
“We took a couple of St John ambulance paramedics out to the ship and transferred the patient off the ship and on to the coastguard boat,” said skipper Adrian Brown. “It was a bit tricky with the swell out in the Bay but we managed it OK.”
The crew took the woman, aged in her 40s, to the port area to a waiting ambulance and she was transported to Gisborne Hospital.
She was admitted to the intensive care ward and is in a stable condition.
