Speakers stolen in blatant theft
A GISBORNE music store suffered a blatant theft when speakers were stolen as staff served customers at the other end of the shop.
The Music Room owner Andrew Kirk says the theft just after midday yesterday was the first shoplifting incident he had faced in the two years since he opened his main street store.
Two dB Technologies self-powered speakers — one slightly larger than the other — were taken from just inside the shop door.
Witnesses told Mr Kirk that the offenders made off with the gear and bolted around the corner to Derby Sreet, from where they drove away in a battered white station wagon.
They were described as a male in his late 30s with tattoos on both legs and an arm, and a female estimated to be in her late 20s, who was carrying a bag.
He understands a third person, wearing a blue T-shirt, might have been involved.
Mr Kirk says he and his staff are going to have to sell a lot more gear to cover the loss.
“It’s going to be obvious when they appear out there . . . Gizzy is too small. ?I’d really like to get them back.”
