Nan’s fabulous festive food

With Christmas fast approaching, images of Nan’s fabulous festive food keep popping into my head. Always busy in the kitchen at this time of year, it didn’t take too much arm-twisting to persuade Nan to share some of her delicious treats with the Weekender.

Chocolate Strawberries

This makes an irresistible sweet addition to your Christmas table.

Ingredients & method:

• Melt whatever chocolate you have in your cupboard.

• I used about 1 cup of chocolate drops.

• Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, repeat and stir until melted.

• I add ¼ tsp of oil (canola or extra virgin) after this step.

• Dip strawberries into melted chocolate and put on greaseproof paper.

• Keep in fridge until ready to use.

For a variation, these are great dipped in white chocolate too.

Grandma's Chocolate Balls

This recipe was given to me by my grandma and is a hit with our grandchildren. It's easy enough for little ones to make too.

Ingredients:

1 cup crunchie peanut butter

50gms softened butter

1 cup icing sugar

2 cups cocoa pops

Method:

• Beat peanut butter, butter and icing sugar, and stir in cocoa pops.

• Put mixture in fridge for 20 minutes then roll into small balls.

• Place on a tray with baking paper then put back in fridge.

• Melt 1½ packets of Cadbury milk chocolate buttons and ¼ tsp of oil (canola or extra virgin).

• Put 4 balls at a time in the chocolate and take out using two forks.

• Place balls on baking paper.

• Keep in fridge until ready to use.

Use white chocolate if you want contrasting colours.
