Only tapping

Letter

Bravery and courage? What rubbish. You are only tapping a few words out on a machine to express your opinion to the Gisborne public, Lara — any half-literate person can and sadly does do that.

Just let other people express their diverse opinions and give us all a break.

Joanne Stewart

  1. Ken Ovenden says:

Well come on Joanne, I can and will tap a mean tune any day, musical or otherwise. Express your diverse opinion, and send us all a clear message that you have at least some idea of just where your own ideology may take us; bring to the table your new ideas, views, aspirations, hopes, dislikes – but give you a break? No.

  2. Lara says:

    Joanne,
I have absolutely no problem with your original comment a few days ago which noted that you were becoming bored by the back and forth between Clive and I.
I would like to point out though that many others also engaged with Clive in these online conversations. I have to wonder why you felt it necessary to single me out specifically.
Your comment above indicates you are very angry, I can’t think why you would be. Additionally the comment above is not quite what I meant when I suggested that you might like to open a new conversation.
Perhaps you might tell us what bravery means to you and how you measure it.

  3. Lara says:

    Joanne,
Some opinions are so unhelpful and frankly harmful to certain groups of society that I have to wonder why you think they should be presented and then go unchallenged. Why should I or anyone else not challenge harmful content?
Looking forward to hearing more about your thoughts on bravery and courage.

  4. Aimee Milne says:

Joanne, your opinion is pointless in this case. You’re not writing to discuss issues of importance, such as human rights or climate change. You’re writing to personally put another person down for no valid reason. So brave! So courageous!
Lara, I have absolutely enjoyed your writing and I love that you don’t back down to bullies. I’ve bought more newspapers in the last 6 months than I have in my whole life because it’s so refreshing to see a more compassionate viewpoint than the usual stale opinion.
