As a former patient having received excellent care in Chelsea, I read about the recent problems with the autoclaves at Hauora Tairawhiti and the assistance requested from other DHBs. I noted that there was no comment as to whether Chelsea Hospital was able to assist, which would seem to have been the obvious first choice.
Perhaps management would enlighten the community, particularly as Chelsea provides such an invaluable service.
Footnote response from Hauora Tairawhiti: Hauora Tairawhiti has a long-standing agreement with Chelsea Hospital to assist one another. When Gisborne Hospital had problems with its boiler system earlier this month, Chelsea Hospital immediately responded. Their assistance was invaluable to ensure that urgent and emergency surgeries could continue to be carried out locally.
