Lotto lags

New Zealand is so behind the times. NZ Lotto should make things easier for those purchasing a ticket through Lotto shops, instead of looking for a winner for a month or so.

When buying a Lotto ticket in Australia you can do so with a player's card, with your name and a membership number. This is scanned every time you buy a Lotto ticket so if you lose it or your ticket gets stolen, no one else can claim your winnings.

MyLotto is only good for those buying tickets online, it doesn't help anyone who loses a ticket bought from a Lotto store or has it stolen.

Time for change NZ Lotto.

Securing the win

Totally agree that NZ Lotto is behind the times! Looking for a winner for a month or so is not cool and shouldn’t be happening at all. We should follow Aussie’s lead and put security measures in place so that if a ticket is lost/stolen, no one else can claim your winnings.

Just as an interesting side note: while buying tickets via MyLotto (online) might eliminate the risk of you losing your ticket, if you win any amount under $1000, it goes straight on to your Lotto ‘account’, i.e. you can’t withdraw it, you can only use it to purchase more tickets. This might not be a biggie for some, but $999 would be a lot of money to others, so it’s worth bearing in mind if you do decide to purchase your Lotto tickets online.

      Hi Dana,
Just a reply to your side-note, according to the my lotto website, you can withdraw funds to a nominated account:
To withdraw funds from your account, simply follow these steps below:

      Login to your account
Tap the balance icon in the top right of the screen
Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Withdraw funds’ then follow the instructions

The funds will be deposited into your nominated bank account and the minimum amount you can withdraw is $10. There may be a delay from when you make the withdrawal to when the funds show in your account – this will depend on your bank and could be up to three days.
