Countdown to lockdown
This will be the daytime sight of Gisborne city centre from Thursday onwards as businesses close down due to the nationwide lockdown.
New Zealand is at Alert Level 3 restrictions and will go into full lockdown as Alert Level 4 restrictions come into force from 11.59pm tomorrow.
Alert Level 4 means the disease is not contained and there is a risk of widespread outbreaks. Restrictions mean people need to stay at home.
Schools and universities will be closed, as well as non-essential businesses.
There will be major reprioritisation of health services while air travel and public transport will only be for essential services.
