Good prices at small sale

A small yarding of just 336 head were presented for sale at yesterday's Matawhero Cattle Fair where buyers from Taumarunui and Whakatane were active, as well as local farmers.

The first pen up of 2.5 year steers from Avondale Farming Gisborne (Strathblane) at Hangaroa fetched the best price of $1322.

The pen of 44 weighed 510kg.

Raroa Station (Tolaga Bay) topped the 1.5 year steers with a pen of seven (395kg) selling for $1050.

LMJ P/S at Ruatoria sold a pen of 18 weaner steers, weighing 265kg for $650.

The best price for 18 month heifers went to Mangahanea Farms Ltd at Ruatoria, with $650 being paid for a pen of 24 weighing 310kg. Raroa Station received $600 for 13 weaner bulls, weighing 260kg.

Prices perkg: 2.5 yr steers, $2.59; 1.5 yr steers, $2.50 – $2.74; weaner steers, $2.18 – $2.45; 1.5 yr heifers, $2.09 – $2.15; weaner bulls, $2.31.
