Big price drop at small fair

Only 619 cattle were sent for sale at Tuesday's Matawhero Fair and prices took a major drop on those received at the last Fair at the beginning of December.

Prices for 18 month steers dropped by up to $1/kg.

Sherwood Agriculture Ltd at Muriwai had seven pens of well presented, quality, 18 month heifers and consequently the price drop for heifers was not as great.

M.D and C.A Utting at Waimata topped this section receiving $1070 for a pen of 15 Charolais, weighing 415kg.

Best price for 18 month steers went to Raroa Station at Tolaga Bay (pictured at left), receiving $990 for a pen of 16, weighing 375kg.

Price range: 18 month steers: $2.63 – $2.77/kg; 18 month heifers: $2.52 – $2.77/ kg; 18 month bulls: $2.46 – $2.89/kg.
