Prices ease a little in sheep sale

PRICES eased slightly at yesterday's weekly Matawhero sheep sale as current dry weather conditions and falling meat schedule prices have dimmed buyer confidence.

A total of 1322 sheep were sold, mostly store lambs.

A pen of eight very large woolly prime lambs from Hakurenga Inc, at Waipiro Bay, fetched $138.75.

Holmdale Farm McBreen, at Waingake, sold five heavy prime ewes for $140.

Best price of $112 for store lambs went to Bracken Enterprises, at Matawai, for a pen of 107 woolly males.

Grants Panel Shop, at Te Karaka, sold an attractive line of 29 – 2-tooth ewes (ex Fishers at Motu), for $152.
