Surfing for Farmers going strong

The “Surfing for Farmers” programme launched in Gisborne last summer and continuing this summer, has now started up at Mount Maunganui and in Canterbury.

Initiator Stephen Thomson's idea was to provide something different for local farmers, to help ease stress levels and it's proved highly successful here.

The Gisborne surf sessions take place from 5.30pm at Midway Beach on Tuesday's and now at the Mount on Thursdays, and in Canterbury also Tuesdays at Sumner Beach.

“It's great to see it happening elsewhere,” Mr Thomson said.

He also organises the surf sessions at the other locations through the “Surfing for Farmers” Facebook page, and through the help of farmers and sponsors on the ground in the two new locations.
