Call for farmers to take greater care of themselves
BEEF and Lamb New Zealand eastern region extension manager Mark Harris has made a strong plea for farmers to take better care of themselves on-farm in the wake of the tragic start to the year across the country.
There have already been six fatalities involving outdoor-based industries including farming this year.
“Our thoughts and commiserations go out to those affected,” Mr Harris said in his weekly e-dairy report.
“It is an important reminder that we all need to take care and make sure we put on the helmet, buckle up and take a moment to assess what we are doing so it can be done safely.
“Remember to SLAM it — Stop, Look, Assess and Manage,” he said.
“Let's make sure we get everyone home for dinner.
“If you haven't already got a Farm Safety Management System operating on the farm, we run a great workshop and provide the resources you need to help get one in place.”
