Snorkelling for Seaweek
To celebrate Seaweek, the Gisborne community is invited to a snorkel day at Te Tapuwae o Rongokako Marine Reserve on Sunday to explore the unique coastal environment in its natural, untouched state and discover the biodiversity in this fully protected area.
This is a free family event where people can snorkel on the reef at Te Tapuwae o Rongokako Marine Reserve alongside experienced instructors.
Turn up at 9.30am on Sunday to join the snorkelling group and get involved in other adventure activities on offer.
All children are to be accompanied by an adult for all activities during this event.
He Awa Ora, He Tai Ora, Healthy Rivers, Living Sea Education Trust, Experiencing Marine Reserves and the Department of Conservation have organised this experience of Te Tairawhiti Gisborne's own fully protected marine reserve just past the Pouawa River Bridge along SH35.
Before activities commence, a health and safety briefing will be given.
At 10.30, people are invited to snorkel on the reef before the event finishes with evaluations at 2pm.
All snorkelling equipment is free to use, such as wetsuits, fins, masks and snorkels or participants can bring their own.
A sausage sizzle will be provided by DoC and/or bring your own lunch.
