Sowing the seeds of a greener land
Every month, the Women’s Native Tree Project Trust (WNTPT) holds a workshop at its nursery at the EIT Rural Studies unit at 320 Stout Street, Riverdale.
WNTPT nursery manager Kauri Forno teaches participants about how to grow native trees from seed and cuttings, how to pot the trees up and how the nursery is set up.
“Our kaupapa (plan) is to see Papatuanuku (Earth) cloaked back in native trees, birds and insects. We are helping others to do what we do as well by donating more than 3200 trees to marae, schools and council reserves in Tairawhiti last year,” said Mr Forno.
The next workshop will be held on Wednesday, June 5. At this month’s workshop are (from left) Pearl Ruston, Kauri Forno, Danny Wilkinson and Di Wood. Picture by Paul Rickard
