Flight path

Woven works based on traditional raranga techniques mixed with wild Israeli organic weaving make up New Zealand/Israeli woman Nova Avni’s collection, Flight Path, at Tairawhiti Museum.

“Having no access to flax in Israel, local women weavers invited me on a journey to discover and experience wild weaving with local fauna,” writes Avni.

“The historical and cultural differences between the two countries have shown me the potential of art as a means to express individual identity in a respectful manner and as a social bridge between people, a reminder not to lose what we have.”

Flight Path, woven works by Nova Avni, Tairawhiti Museum, March 6 - May 9.

Nova Avni’s colection, Flight Path, is on display at Tairawhiti Museum until May 9.
