Forty-eight hours, 20 artists and a bunch of new plays

Two actors, one writer, and one director are the minimum requirements for Evolution Theatre Company’s Tairawhiti 48-hour play festival.

A fifth member can join to deal with technical challenges. The concept is simple — create and perform an original 10-minute play in just 48 hours. Teams are to be made up of a minimum of four members and costumes and props must be comprised of items found on team members’ premises.

Registrations for the festival close September 3 at 7pm, and the festival starts at 7pm on September 4 when entrants will be given the theme, prop and text they must work with.

On Sunday, September 6 at 7pm, at Evolution Theatre, 75 Disraeli Street, the plays will be performed before a live audience.

Tickets are $15 and attendees will be given a ballot and asked to score the plays. The team with the most votes for the best play wins an exciting award.
