Latin dance party coming to the Dome
Fiesta Latina is back — a night of Latin beats and dance. This time there's a little something extra to get you in the mood. Gisborne group Los Village Burritos will play live in the courtyard at the Dome to warm up the crowd ahead of the main act BrazilBeat Sound System.
The Village Burritos hail from Mexico, USA, Australia and Gisborne. They are a local ensemble incorporating ukuleles, clarinet and various percussion in their self-described style of “guacamole rhythms” — originals and covers in a potpourri of Latin-flavoured indie, swing, pop, reggae and even a bit of country.
BrazilBeat is a husband and wife DJ duo who will be playing the hottest Latin tracks all night. Get ready for salsa, merengue, bachata, Brazilian funk, kuduro and reggaetton (Latin hip-hop).
Organiser Elena Serena said she was looking forward to hosting her sixth Latin event and bringing Latin rhythms to Gisborne.
“There is quite a big Latino community here so they always come out for this.”
Elena is trying to grow the Latin scene in Gisborne and hosted her first Latin night back in 2014.
“It's great to get the Gisborne community out to enjoy the dancing and Latin rhythm.
“I will lead a few dances so people can learn the basics but it is very relaxed. It's about having fun.”
She said she was excited to be hosting some experienced dancers from Napier who she hoped would help lead the dancing.
Fiesta Latina, the Dome, Saturday, February 15 from 9pm. Tickets available at The Aviary or Elena Serena 021 991 867 or on the night at the door for $10.
