State Highway 2 open again after slip

State Highway 2 in Putorino has re-opened, after a slip north of the Waikere River bridge.

Earlier today Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency regional transport systems manager Oliver Postings said “road users should expect delays but we are hoping the road will be open later this morning.”

“There is no local detour as there are no other roads. Any detour would need to be via State Highway 5 and State Highway 2 through Taupo/Opotiki.

“The slip is made up of 50m3 of material,” he said.

The road was closed at 3.22am this morning but one-lane was opened at about 11.45am.

As of 12.30pm all lanes were open.

NZTA recommended motorists drive with extra caution as a 30km/h temporary speed restriction remains in place while crews continue with slip site clean-up.

Visit the NZTA’s website www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/traffic/ for up to date information on the road closure.
