Mazda’s mid-range SUV is packing more tech toys

MAZDA has brought in a whole new world of advanced technology in its CX-5 GSX AWD SUV and the result is a much safer driving experience.

Everybody knows the GSX is a snappy performer benefiting from the SKYACTIV technologies that are behind the legendary “zoom zoom” experience but it is interesting on a second glance to run over the impressive list of safety features to alert the driver to hidden hazards.

There is blind spot monitoring to detect any unseen vehicles and alert the driver of any hazardous lane changes.

Rear cross traffic alert will warn you of the presence of another vehicle or a pedestrian that might be out of sight when you are reversing. This could be priceless in a narrow drive surrounded by fences or vegetation, and could prevent a tragic accident possibly involving a child.

Also contributing to safety is the flip-up active driving display on a colour seven-inch touchscreen that gives crucial driving information right there in the driver’s line of sight.

The active driving display also recognises and displays a number of road signs and warns of speed limit signs, no entry and stop signs through the traffic sign recognition system.

It is another pair of eyes that could save money in avoiding speeding fines.

It is a level of safety features completely unknown only a comparatively short time ago, and shows Mazda is committed and happy to take part in the technology battles that are a feature of modern motoring.

If you want more peace of mind, just look to Mazda’s five-year unlimited kilometre warranty, five-year roadside assist and three years or 100,000 kilometres free scheduled servicing.

However, while safety is important, the real attraction of the GSX lies in its spectacular and refined performance, delivered through a 2.5 litre petrol engine that provides maximum power of 140kW at 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 400Nm at 4000 rpm, through a six-speed automatic transmission with fuel consumption of only 7.6 l/100kms.

The GSX keeps you connected to the outside world with four USB ports distributed throughout the cabin to connect to all your devices, while MZD Connect allows you to safely access your smartphone.

Listen to your music, radio and podcasts through a wide range of sources through an exceptional 10-speaker Bose system.

The GSX includes inbuilt satellite navigation with free map updates for three years. That will appeal to a lot of customers.

Everywhere you look, the GSX seems to come up with something that will surprise and delight.
