Added Kia funk

KIA has produced a vehicle that is hard to categorise in its 2017 Soul Redtrack — but it is one that grows on you the more you study it.

Just where the Soul fits into the automotive world is a bit of a mystery but the most common description seems to be a compact crossover — certainly one that emphasises bold design that allows it to stand well away from any utilitarian image.

This ethos is well illustrated with the Redtrack model, a feisty small vehicle that will surprise you with the amount of room it does have and its striking design, not to forget its driving quality.

The Redtrack name comes from a red trim around the vehicle, which makes it particularly easy on the eye and different from monotone colours.

The Redtrack has a 2-litre petrol engine, with maximum power of 112kW at 6200rpm and maximum torque of 192Nm at 4700rpm. A six-speed automatic transmission offers durability and smooth shifting, while the sequential manual mode is placed next to the driver for easy operation. Fuel economy is 8 litre/100km.

The safety package includes vehicle stability management, hill start assist, ABS brakes, remote keyless entry with alarm, dual front to rear airbags and a reversing camera.

Kia has given the Redtrack a bold outline to make it easy on the eye, with features like daytime running lights, LED rear combination lamps and a distinctive backpack-styled tailgate.

The Redtrack has leather interior, a panoramic sunroof and privacy glass.

An attractive and bright cabin is packed with comfort and technology features with everything right to hand, the perfect inner space for both driver and passengers.

On the comfort list is a colour touch screen with radio and MP3 player and six speakers. It also has hands-free Bluetooth, air conditioning, steering wheel- mounted cruise control and audio control, and an adjustable driver’s seat.

The Redtrack comes with Kia’s standard five-year/100,000km warranty, and five-year roadside assist.

A special offer has the Soul priced at $28,990, a hefty $5000 reduction on the usual $33,990 ticket.

Something different and a lot to like is Kia’s funky Redtrack Soul.
