More tech poured into the General’s bigger small car

HOLDEN has continued its transformation of the popular Barina, with the 2017 model taking it to new heights of comfort and performance.

The company’s theme has been small car - big technology and it is reflected right through the range, from the LS model used for the test drive to the LT.

Buyers choosing the LS are getting a car that is a delight to drive, with a high safety rating to add to the attraction.

The 2017 Barina is more stylish and sporty and has had some welcome additions like LED running lights and 16 inch bi-colour alloy wheels to go with automatic headlights, power windows and mirrors, and front fog lights.

Little features like the high rear door handles add to that sporty image and there is the choice of some bright colour options like son of a gun grey and burning hot orange.

All the Barina range are now fitted with a reversing camera and rear sensors, which not only will get you out of a tight space but contribute to an ANCAP five-star rating, the best possible, and something that will put a lot of prospective buyer’s mind at rest.

It gets its power, and plenty of it, from a 1.6 litre engine with a grunty 86kW, which is mated with either a six-stage automatic or five-stage manual transmission.

Either will leave you with a road warrior capable of strolling along in the open road traffic or responding smoothly when climbing.

The Barina is packed with technology, highlighted by the Holden MyLink information system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto phone systems delivered through a seven-inch colour touch screen. Add to that a six-speaker auto system that makes the interior even more friendly.

Flexible 60/40 rear seat split storage means the Barina is more than capable of being a shopping basket or a picnic one.

On top of that there is a long list of optional accessories, all included in the Barina’s three-year or 100,000km warranty.

Moving up to the LT will get you extras like a passive entry remote key and 17-inch alloys, there is plenty to like in the LS.

As Holden says, the 2017 Barina will get you wherever you want to go in life. It shows again that Holden do not just make big cars but are right up to the mark with desirable small cars, where a section of the market is tending.

Small car, big on tech. That really is the 2017 Barina.
