It’s a bird, it’s a plane . . . no, it’s Wairoa’s Christmas parade
Wednesday, December 05, 2012
SUPERMAN and Santa Claus will take over Marine Parade in Wairoa on Saturday when the superhero-themed Christmas parade hits town.
Wairoa Lighthouse Festival committee member Alex Powdrell says organisation for A Superheroes Christmas is well under way as Wairoa businesses and individual groups remain tight-lipped about their float ideas.
“Everyone is being very secret-squirrel,” she said. “But we are really looking forward to the parade and it will certainly bring a little Christmas cheer to Wairoa.”
The parade starts at 2pm and goes from the Wairoa Lighthouse to the Gaiety Theatre. There will be prizes up for grabs, including best superhero and best Christmas-themed float.
There will also be an environmental twist. The best recycled costume will earn the recipient a $100 cash prize.
The festive season will also be welcomed with the Run-A-Muk fun run, starting at 9.30am on the day, and a free family concert after the parade at 3.30pm.
Both will be based at the reserve next to the lighthouse.
The concert will showcase a number of local artists including Susan Te Puna and KLine, along with Maori TV’s Homai Te Pakipaki winner Hukanui Brown and the Zumba Mummas.
