SMEDLEY Station and Cadet Training Farm has selected 11 young people for its 2013 intake, which includes Gisborne Boys’ High School student Watarawi Ngata.

The two-year cadetships will be at the Tikokino station in Hawke’s Bay starting in mid-January.

Station manager Terry Walters announced the names of the successful applicants recently.

Ngata is the only Gisborne cadet in the intake, which drew 82 applicants.

Smedley Station was gifted to the Crown in 1919 under the will of Josiah Howard for the purpose of training young people in agriculture.
