Power out to 1800, 12 hours for 33
A POWER outage in the Elgin and Te Hapara suburbs on Friday night left some residents without power for 12 hours.

An 11kV cable fault in Lytton Road at about 11.30pm caused a power outage for about 1800 customers.

While most residents had power restored within a couple of hours, about 33 individual connections in the vicinity of Parker Street in Elgin were without power for 12 hours.

One resident who contacted The Gisborne Herald via email on Saturday said as a result of the lengthy power cut, they had lost “all our meat and fridge contents” .

Eastland Network general manager of energy Brent Stewart said a temporary reconfiguration of the distribution network had allowed power to be reinstated to most households fairly quickly.

In the Parker Street area, engineers had to make repairs before they could get the power back on, said Mr Stewart.

“Regrettably, they were out for 12 hours but most of those affected were back within two hours.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their patience.”

He was not aware of the reason for the fault but permanent repairs were carried out over the weekend and completed yesterday.
