Working bee at lagoon
IT was a curtain-raiser for Conservation Week at the Sisterson Lagoon yesterday, with LeaderBrand staff giving a helping hand.

Six Salad House staff spent the day clearing, planting and mulching trees at the lagoon.

Sisterson Lagoon Restoration Trust spokeswoman Tui Foster said LeaderBrand leased the land adjacent to the lagoon and had donated many volunteer hours to the project.

The restoration project was also grateful for funding from the Lottery Environment and Heritage Grant to plant another 2000 trees sourced from the Native Garden Nursery.

A lot of the ground work for the project was completed by Ecoworks with funding from the Biodiversity Condition Fund and the new grant allowed the project to continue to another stage.

The initial planting was done by Tree Solutions, which cleared the ground at the entrance. The LeaderBrand group continued the planting and mulched the trees with bark donated by Arbor Care.

The enthusiastic crew worked with Malcolm Piper from the Sisterson Lagoon Restoration Trust and has made a visual impact that has enhanced the driveway and the extending path.

• Conservation Week is next week.
