Champions at first go

SOCCER - Jennian Homes Team Gisborne with the Pacific Premiership trophy after their final league game at Childers Road Reserve on Saturday.

A 1-all draw with Taradale AFC completed an unbeaten league season of 13 wins and three draws. They had the best offensive and defensive records, scoring 54 goals and conceding just 11.

The team, coached by Brett Derry, are a composite side featuring most of the best players from clubs in the district. As well as providing a quality side, the team concept gives promising young players a pathway to higher level football.

It is not quite season over for the side. There is the possiblity of a game against the touring New Zealand Armed Forces and they have also entered a tournament in Hawke’s Bay next month.
