Four house awards for Gisborne
Monday, August 20, 2012
ONE gold and three silvers were won by Gisborne houses at the East Coast House of the Year Awards on Saturday night.
Building contractor D. Stevens Ltd won gold as category winner for the PlaceMakers Renovation Award $250,000-$500,000 for an Aberdeen Road renovation.
Managing director Peter Stevens was “absolutely rapt”.
“It’s always a tough competition to be up against your peers. The standards are always very high.”
Mr Stevens said this was not the first time the company had won awards.
It had been a national finalist seven times previously and won categories there twice – “it’s awesome”.
Jennian Homes Gisborne won two silvers in the Department of Building and Housing New Homes under $250,000 and New Homes $350,000-$450,000 categories.
The other Gisborne silver went to Emms Building Centre in the New Homes $350,000-$450,000 category.
There were five gold winners from the East Coast region, which includes Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne.
The gold winners will be assessed with gold award winners from the other 11 competition regions to find the national gold reserve finalists announced next month.
A new home in Napier and a renovation in Havelock North were named this year’s top East Coast properties. The two houses won supreme awards.
The builders’ entries were recognised by members of the East Coast region’s registered master builders and the local building industry at Marina View.
National category winners and the PlaceMakers supreme awards for the renovation of the year and the house of the year, will be announced at a dinner in Auckland in November.
