Raising money for turf worth it
DANCING with the Stars Gizzy Style kicked off with a disco style performance from hockey coach Dougal Watts and Amber Church.

The pair were prepped by Dougal’s wife Tracey.

“The training was bloody hard work,” said Dougal.

“From now on, the professionals can have it.”

Helping raise money for the artificial hockey turf was the perfect motivation for the pair.

“My inclusion was a bit of a closely- guarded secret,” said Amber.

“But it was a fantastic experience, even though the training was hard.”

Bollywood came to Gisborne for the second performance of the night, when firefighter Ed Hindmarsh and his dancing partner Maiko Lewis took the stage.

With nine years of service to the fire service, Ed was only too happy to lend his support to the hockey fundraiser.

“For me, it was all about making movements look like dance . . . which was pretty tough,” he said.

Primary school teacher Maiko was impressed with her partner’s stage presence.

“He has done so well and I’m so proud of him,” she said.

Tomorrow we featuere Manu Caddie and Kylie Cranston, and Trudy Houkamau and Deane Takao.
