Beef field day
A PUBLIC field day for the Gisborne–Wairoa Beef Profit Partnership will be held at the Colosseum Bar and Bistro at Matawhero on Wednesday.

It will begin with a presentation from Bob Thomson on beef cow reproduction and the importance of body condition scoring of cows.

Steve Morris of Massey University will cover heifer management, growth profile of heifers, cross- breeding of cows and B.C.S. research.

AgFirst Gisborne’s Peter Andrew will look into the financial comparison of heifer options, while Grant Hickling will deliver a report after attending the recent Australian Beef Profit Partnership conference.

Federated Farmers Gisborne-Wairoa president Hamish Cave will give an update on the group’s activities and Silver Fern Farms will carry out a carcase break-down demonstration, with commentary about each cut and its place in the market.
