Sallies’ Angels creations cap ‘fantastic’ night
THE Salvation Army Fashion show and wearable arts competition proved successful in raising funds and the visibility of the organisation, says Salvation Army Family Store manager Heidi Parkes.

“The night was fantastic and altogether we raised about $1000 for the Salvation Army food bank,” said Mrs Parkes.

More than 120 cans of food and pasta were also given as entry donations to the event.

The main part of the show was the wearable arts angel competition for which costumes had to be made from reusable goods.

Among the entrants were Gisborne Girls’ High School students Margeaux Pittar (left) and Amy Baldacchino. Amy won with her plastic milk bottle angel creation and Margeaux was third with her papier mache design.

The two friends decided before the competition that if either of them won they would split the first prize $200 voucher.

After many Sundays spent working on her creation, and 100 milk cartons later, 14-year-old Amy says winning was “really cool.”

She is putting her prize money towards an iPod.
