A brightly-painted “Giz-bin” has won Ilminster Intermediate student Brianna Cronin the chance to tour Rhythm & Vines as international performer Moby does his sound check at the venue.
The bin-painting competition was an initiative from environmental charity Sustainable Coastline, which is organising a major beach clean-up spanning across the region on January 2.
Students were asked to convey the message ‘‘keep Gisborne beautiful’’ and encourage recycling to festival goers at Rhythm & Vines, where the bins will be installed.
Imagery characteristic to the region featured predominantly on the bin designs, alongside slogans to clean up after yourself.
The bins also feature banners promoting Sustainable Coastline’s beach clean-up, as organisers aim to get thousands of locals and visitors alike to take part.
Brianna Cronin’s whimsical design featuring rolling hillside, sunshine and the beach scene Gisborne is best known for stood out to R&V organisers Scott Witters and Hamish Pinkham, who judged the best bin.
Mr Witters said he hoped to display the beautifully-painted bins in town in the days leading up to R&V and the beach clean-up.
